SENIOR COUNSELOR - MISSOURI UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Salary Minimum: $47,476 annually

The senior counselor role serves as a member of a collaborative student wellbeing team dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value. Through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach, this position will serve as a licensed mental health professional providing direct mental health services to a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students. Using a short-term intervention and stepped care model, the senior counselor will be responsible for providing individual and group counseling, walk-in assessments, consultations, and crisis intervention services. This position may also assist in training and supervision of master’s or doctoral level interns. Job Description
  • Provides individual, group, and crisis counseling with around 70% direct service commitment
  • Develops and delivers educational programs on self-management and mental health
  • Consults with internal and external stakeholders, and with professional colleagues
  • Contributes to gathering data, compiling information, and preparing reports
  • Collaborates with colleagues on campus committees and initiatives
  • Acts as a resource and/or mentor for colleagues
  • Other duties as assigned

 Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work and relevant licensure (or eligible to be licensed within 12 months) within the State of Missouri.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Four years’ experience providing mental health services\
  • Professional experience in a university/college counseling center setting working with young adults and a diverse population
  • Track record of consistently sound professional decision-making
  • Ability to communicate effectively and create trusting, supportive relationships
  • Comfortable in the use of computer technology (Titanium software, email, web pages, PowerPoint, web-based surveys) to enhance services and outreach to students and campus
  • Possesses highly developed skills to resolve complex and challenging clinical situations
  • Possesses knowledge of best practices and desire to learn and incorporate new service methods
  • Possesses professional liability insurance
  • Training and experience promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural excellence
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of state and federal health care privacy laws, Title IX, VAWA, ADA, Title II, HIPAA, FERPA, and professional ethics
