About the Webinar:
Psychologists increasingly are being asked to address both the mental and physical health problems of their patients. Childhood obesity is a crisis. The CDC estimates there are over 14 million children and adolescents who suffer from obesity, just under 20% of our child population. Percentages for Hispanic and non-Hispanic Black children are even higher.
Obesity has lifelong implications for our children’s health and well-being. Physically it can lead to problems with asthma, diabetes, bone and joint problems, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea. In terms of a child’s mental health, obesity can adversely result in problems with sleep, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. It can leave children more likely to be subject to bullying.
