PART ONE
An overview of the areas of forensic psychology evaluations and practice, as well as special ethical considerations, unique aspects of forensic reports, tips for providing expert testimony, dealing with attorneys and courts, and lessons I have learned from over 40 years' experience. We will take a closer look at custody/parenting evaluations, personal injury lawsuit damage evaluations, violence threat assessments, and competency determination assessments, plus the use of psychological testing in forensic contexts.
Learning objectives:
PART TWO
Case study: In a fitness for duty evaluation, psychologists should in most cases access pertinent medical records but should also restrict the request to records essential to the evaluation. Psychologists should recognize that people being evaluated have a reasonable expectation of privacy but that they also may seek to conceal critical information. Dr. Harris will present a case study of an evaluation in which the evaluee denied access to requested records and was eventually terminated for failing to cooperate with the required evaluation. The employee sued for wrongful termination and other claims. The appellate court ultimately upheld the termination, and the process by which this occurred provides insight into the fitness for duty process.
