The continuous displays of Anti-Black racism and gender racism across the United States brought about a recent rise in calls for racial and social justice. Action taken to foster said justice endeavors has been met with extreme counteraction determined to not only silence these individuals but to undo generations of progress. Among the things under attack is Critical Race Theory, an academic framework used to detail the presence and impact of structural racism within the United States. Given the vast misinterpretations, lack of clear understandings, and misappropriations of this frame, this presentation strives to:

Learning objectives:
  • Introduce Critical Race Theory, providing its historical backing, core principles, and applications.
  • Disentangle CRT from other race critical theories and perspectives as well as current politicalized jargon.
  • Demonstrate how it can be used to advance Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) endeavors in healthcare practices and research.
  • Moderated panel portion will include discussion of how sensitivity to EDI issues are an ethical obligation for psychologists, and how incorporating a client’s history and social context is critical to being able to treat clients in ethical and effective ways.
  • Moderated panel portions will include discussion on providing ethical and equitable training, supervision, and research utilizing CRT framework.
