Dr. Kristen Thompson received her degree in clinical psychology in 2016 from Northern Illinois University, where she earned a special emphasis in child psychology and conducted research on interpersonal violence and mindfulness. She completed internship at the University of Michigan Mary A. Rackham Institute prior to specializing in pediatric psychology during a fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital, where she worked closely with medical providers in the hospital and in integrated specialty and primary care clinics, providing services to patients with chronic health conditions, traumatic injuries, and developmental and behavioral health disorders. Dr. Thompson joined Burrell Behavioral Health in 2017 and is currently working as the System Director of Pediatric Integration, where she works with community partners to expand access to behavioral health care for children by pairing behavioral health services with the health care children are already receiving. Dr. Thompson is also the director of Burrell’s Youth Focus Clinic, which provides multidisciplinary care to children and adolescents with ADHD.

Panelist: Dr. Erica Rutledge
Picture
Dr. Ericka Rutledge is a licensed clinical psychologist who currently works at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital (CGCH) in St. Louis, MO.  She specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families, especially those with chronic medical conditions.  In addition to outpatient therapy services, she also provides consultation-liaison services to medical teams and integrated behavioral health services within several multidisciplinary specialty clinics (e.g., Endocrine, Gastroenterology, Bariatric) at CGCH. In terms of education background, Dr. Rutledge obtained her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Indiana University-Bloomington, a Master’s in Psychology from New York University, and her doctorate from Northern Illinois University.  She completed a combined child/pediatric focused internship at University of Florida prior and then went on to finish her postdoctoral fellowship in the Psychiatry Consultation Service at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.  In addition to clinical work, Dr. Rutledge enjoys teaching (and is an adjunct faculty for the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis), spending time with her family, and watching Real Housewives.
Panelist Dr. Amy Sickel
Picture
Dr. Sickel, a licensed clinical psychologist, is an Assistant Professor at Kansas City University in the Doctor of Clinical Psychology Program. Within her role she focuses on the clinical training of students and understanding development through the lifespan.  She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Family Psychology, from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California.  She pursued her doctorate after working with families and children of Wyandotte and Johnson County Kansas, who were placed in foster care.  A desire to better serve the mental health needs of children who have experienced abuse and neglect guided Dr. Sickel’s training and research.  Her dissertation research led to the creation of a board game designed to strengthen the parent-child relationship during foster care visitation for families working toward reunification.  Since completing her training that included providing therapy and psychological testing within the school, community mental health, and hospital settings in California, she returned to Kansas City and completed her Postdoctoral Residency at Lakewood Counseling Services of Medical Services, where she served for 6 years.  Dr. Sickel has worked with children and families with depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and mood disorders from an Attachment and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy orientation.
