Referrals for assessments for autism spectrum disorders are placing increased pressure on psychologists to provide diagnoses and recommend services or accommodations. We also discuss ways to address these concerns when they arise with patients to avoid potential harm by overdiagnosis.

2. Apply the concept of base rates to patient endorsement of symptoms commonly mistaken for autism
3. Learn ways of discussing autism with independent and functional adults seeking an autism diagnosis.
